I have MTs 274/40 on the stock 17 rear rims. They fit well. I use them at the track sometimes (not the ones in the sig pic). But since changing to 4.11 gears, their diameter is too small to complete the 1/4 in 4th. Won't use them anymore.

I plan on running 27/40/17 slicks on the stock rims and Im going to be on a 125 shot on nitrous. What would be a good gear change? 3:73 is it better for me to hit the quarter in 3rd or 4th. I havent been to the track with the stang yet.

I just replaced my p-zeros with BFG G-force Sports 275/40/17. There is plenty of room in there, but with my un-lowered car the smaller diameter leaves a lot of fenderwell around the tire. I'm using 9" GT-500 knock offs. I can't lower the car cause my Gen II front bumper drags every bump in town now...

If you are just talking about clearance, there is plenty of room. Another guy has already done this but I'm going with 325/45/17 in the rear from M&H on 17x10.5" wheels. -Joe

Really? you run out of 4th gear with that size tire and gears? Interesting, as I got 275/40's to try this year, and planned for 4.10's in the future.
