Default Question for those more motor savy than I.

I have a simple question. I recently purchased an 05 V6 ( I say recent however I am already pushing 7,000 miles) anyway. While looking under the hood I noticed a hose running from the top of the valve cover to the air intake hose right where it bends to go into the throttle body. I assume this is to vent excess operating gases from the motor through the combustion chamer. It seems to me this is raising the temperature of my intake air which in turn is going to lower my hp. Can I remove the hose? Plug the intake hose where it attaches? What could I put on the valve cover so that it can still vent? Is this just a big waste of time. Let me know.

Default RE: Question for those more motor savy than I.

It will raise your intake air ever so slightly, as well as make your engine slightly more likely to predetonate if it is close to doing so already.

If you plug it, you will have problems, because it is releasing blow-by pressure from your crankcase. You could rig a small filter (I think K&N sells 'em) or a catch-can (many makers sell them, or you could make one yourself with proper instruction), but unless you're doing mods and pushing the performance envelope, I'd just leave it alone. It's also part of your emissions system, as burning the crankcase vapors releases less polution than venting it straight to the atmosphere. If a smog inspector sees it venting to atmosphere, you will fail.
