Default Shaker 500 Audio Problem

Son's 2006, V6, Auto. Trans., Mustang is equipped w/ Shaker 500 system. Three days ago the unit suddenly ceased audio output when transmission is in any of the drive gears. Engine on/off does not matter. When in neutral or park, it works okay. Anyone else experience this? Baffles the hell outta me.

Waterleak possibly? Is/has the passenger floor carpet been wet recently? Have you gotten much rain there? I would search the forums for the waterleak TSB (technical service bulletin) and SJB (smart junction box) and read up... The corrosion can cause electrical gremlins...

Wow, that's a new one...

Check out the wiring diagrams here: http://iihs.net/fsm/?dir=1

I'd look it over myself but I'm heading out shortly.

There is nothing tied together electrically between the drive selector
and the sheitter 500. The sheitter is a stand alone unit except for
the speed volume function.

My best guess is the SJB has suffered from the dreaded water leak.
Try disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery for 20 minutes and
then do the adaptive relearning procedure described in the owners manual.

Wow, thank you all. The water leak was one thing I had not thought of. It could very well be the problem. Two days after the original post, the radio started working fine again. Had no rain either, though. Did not notice any wet carpet, but I'll be keeping a closer eye on that. Thanks, y'all
