Engine started ticking in my Mustang GT
#11
Moosestang, The tick is noticeably load, the service engine soon light is not on and it seems that the horsepower is still there. With the hood down you can hear the tick but in the rear i hear the Roush exhaust.....a better sound. lol. I will keep all posted when I hear what may be the problem. I hope its an injector and not a valve.

My 07 has ticking at low RPMs that disappears as the RPMs rise. It was determined to be operating sounds of the VCT. Ford addressed it a while back and supposedly as long as the sound goes away with increased RPMs it's normal. If it increases with RPMs then worry. But I'm not a mechanic and I only apply this to my car so if you feel worried just take yours in.

Hey Jack...How did things turn out? The sound I'm hearing now is similar to the one in the f150 video, but not quite as loud. Very similar and it does increase in frequency with the rpms...hard to hear over the exhaust though.
Just wondering how things ended up

There is a tsb floating around where ford suggests using 10w40 in vehicles with the vct ticking. I thought the motor would eat itself with 10w40, lol!
The good news is it won't hurt performance, the ticking that is, not the adding 10w40.

I might have missed it but does the ticking go away when the engine is warmed up? My '11 tickes at first start up but once the engine is warm it goes away. I was told it is just the direct injection warming up and its normal.
