Default NEED HELP WITH THERMOSTAT????

OK MY CAR IS GETTING TO HOT, I JUST REPLCACED THE ELECTRIC FAN BECAUSE THE MOTOR WENT OUT IN IT AND THATS WORKING GREAT BUT LATELY SINCE IT'S BEEN HOT OUTSIDE THE CAR STAY'S AROUND THE "A" ON THE TEMP GAUGE AND THIS IS WITH THE A/C OFF. THEN IF I SPEED UP LIKE TO CATCH A YELLOW LIGHT OR MERGE ON THE HWY IT MOVES TO THE "L". TOMMOROW MORNING I WAS GOING TO BUY A THERMOSTAT FOR SURE AND PUT IT IN. BUT I WANTED TO KNOW IF THE REGULAR AUTO STORES CARRY A 160, LIKE AUTOZONE OR ADVANCEAUTO, NAPA, ECT. ALSO HOW WOULD I FLUSH THE COOLANT.
THANKS.

First off, I'd turn off the caps. Second I wouldn't touch a 160 deg. thermostat in these cars with a 100' pole. Your car was designed to run in all kinds of temps with the stock thermostat. If it gets too hot with the stock stat, something else is wrong, (assuming the stat is good). How do you know it is hot besides the gauge? Is it puking out coolant? Could it be a bad sending unit? Get it "hot" and stick a meat thermometer in the radiator, that'll tell yah. Are you getting circulation? You should be able to see with the radiator cap off and the car at operating temp coolant circulating. If not, and the thermostat is good, bad water pump.

o.k. I thought the 160 was a good thing i was just browsing performance sites and i kept seeing the 160 and 180 I thought cooler was better. It doesn't cough up coolant, haven't check the circulation. thanks i will in the morning. And i thought the gauge was mechanical.
bad water pump=significant others advise(Trans Am)

yeah don't do a 160. Your car will still run warmer than that because your fan won't be insinc with the stat. They work hand i hand. Also 160 isn't hot enough to evaporate moisture out of the engine. I have a 180 and wouldn't go any lower than that. I also programmed the fans to come on a little earlier than stock. You would need a prof. programmer for that.
