ok...annoying squeak, help
Lately, I've had the radio low enough to notice this really annoying squeaking and I'm not sure what's really causing it. I have a '96 gt 5spd, when I start out in first with light pressure on the gas pedal, it's all fine and ok, but as soon as I let off the gas while still in gear the squeak starts but if I press the clutch pedal in, then it goes away. It seems at lower speeds this happens, but at higher speeds, say in like 3rd or 4th gear, I can let off the gas and It doesn't seem to squeak. But again, at lower speeds mainly 1st and 2nd gear, if I accelerate and let off the gas pedal the squeak chimes up but if I start accelerating again it seems to go away or if I press in the cltch pedal, it seems to go away...any idea's?

It is the throwout bearing making the noise. Did you try pulling up on the cluth pedal and then stepping on it? That is the factory adjustment for the clutch. An adjustable clutch cable (like the steeda one) also eliminates this problem. I had a squeaky TOB in my 97 Cobra and fixed it with a steeda adjustable cable. Didn't squeak again.

Alright, well in the time between posting the original message and now, the noise almost seemed to change. It's more of a crackle if you will, almost like when your exhaust cools but three times as loud if not louder. Sounds like a massive vibration of some sort perhaps, but the best way i can describe it is that it's a crackle noise, with no real repetition pattern, speed doesn't seem to make a difference nor does pressing in or letting out the clutch. I do notice it makes the noise more under faster acceleration, rather than smoother. think it could be my exhaust? It's the stock ford exhaust and really beat looking...any idea's? Could it maybe be the throwout bearing, despite doing it with the clutch both engaged and disangaged? I gotta get rid of this noise guys...

I figured it out! The U-Joint on the front of the drive shaft was bound up and shot. Fortunitely the drive shaft came right out rather easily, with the right tools of coarse...a huge *** breaker bar that is, haha. But anyways, it was the front u-joint causing all that trouble, so glad it was that simple. I was already to start ripping into that bell housing when I figured the u-joints maybe be the cheap easy fix I wanted, and it was, haha.
