The title of this thread says it all. My car threw P0442 and P0456 last week and now there is a smell of fuel coming from the trunk. I suppose a seal needs to be replaced.

Does anyone have an exploded view diagram of the emissions and fuel system on the modular stang?

you should check were the filler hose goes into the gas tank. that rubber gromet normally cracks after a few years

I went ahead and ordered the grommet... should be here any day. It wasn't properly sealed with the fuel tank but I didn't smell any fuel vapors coming from it. I am thinking the leak is in the trunk somewhere.

the leak is not likely in the trunk,
that doesn't make sense, possibly if you smelled exhaust then maybe, but not gas. gas smell would be something in the evap system as you should not smell gas even under the vehicle... and yes the gas tank itself is a part of the evap system.

I got up close to the gas tank from underneath the car today. They engine had not been run at all but the ignition switch had been turned a few times. I definitely smelled gasoline coming from the grommet area of the tank. I agree with you lilc511, That smell shouldnt enter the vehicle. I am thinking I have more than one problem back there. I will replace the grommet and update the thread as I go... prolly do it tomorrow. Thanks for the inputs.

when i had to replace my grommet i had gas fumes in the cabin and once i fixed it they were gone

The grommet replacement should just be scheduled maintenance.... everyone has to do it. Might as well include the evap canister purge valve, too.
