Default heads up?

How good are stock heads on a 302 with an edelbrock performer intake and a 650 Holley? which year motor had the better heads from 85-93? excluding 86 cuz I heard those suck?

also If I were to run GT40 heads (from an explorer or bought new) and I run a stock spec cam will I need to buy new pistons with valve recesses and do I need to check clearances?

also is running synthetic oil in a freshly rebuilt engine really bad? I have heard it is

For as far as stock goes, the E7's you have are about as good as you're gonna get. And they suck. GT40's shouldn't need valve reliefs, but don't take it from me. Don't run synthetic on a new engine. If you're only switching up the top end then you can run it after you change the oil (30 min of idling then an oil/filter change cause of the cam grease). If you do any bottom end work, you need longer
