so where do i go from here? First off will it matter ifi routed it like around the motor mount rather than right underneath it? Would that do anything? Also so if i have the stock cable how do i get this adjusted so my clutch stops slipping?

I just did mine in my '85 last month and it was a pretty painless process - well except for the beating my hands and knuckles took I used an OEM 10" clutch kit and had my flywheel resurfaced. I paid right at $100 for the clutch and $35 for the machining of the flywheel. Drives so much better now Most people will probably tell you to upgrade to a 10.5" flywheel and clutch kit.
With the right tools, a good how-to with pics (do a search in this section under CLUTCH INSTALL and you will find a good one posted a few times) and perhaps a buddy to help out with muscling the tranny in and out, it can be done if a day or over a weekend if you have the time to devote to it.
Also - does your car leak oil from the rear seal area? If so then that could be the cause of the clutch deteriating, thus you would want to install a new rear seal and possibly a speedy sleeve around the end of the crank while the flywheel is off to clear up that pesky leak.
BTW - I am no expert on all of this like some of these guys, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night [8D] Just kidding - I did do all of this thorough research and work on my own car last month and was very pleased with the success of my first major driveline project.

ya i actually just had the engine and tranny pulled. I did all the seals including rear main and also replaced the clutch and all that. Now that its back installed im having this problem with the clutch slipping, because the cable is too tight. I will go ahead and buy a firewall adjuster and install that, then adjust it accordly i guess, im hopni this will fix the problem.

a firewal adjuster isnt going to do DICK for you if the cable is too tight.. you need to see if your quadrant has more than one hook on it. If it does, you need to move it out one hook

One last question on this thread. Is it necessary to get a firewall adjuster if i buy an adjustable cable? Right now cash it tight and i would rather just buy what i have to and nothing more. If it will be able to adjust and work right with just buyin an adjustable cable that would be great, and then i can always buy a firewall adjuster later if i have to.

You could, but then you have to climb under the car to adjust it. That's the nice thing about the firewall adjuster, You can do it from under the hood.

i have the ford racing quadrant kit with two hooks and adjusting the cable requires me laying on my back and using a half inch wrench and a half socket, not a big deal at all. i'd rather do that then spend 40+ dollars on an firewall adjuster. but if you have longtubes i would get one
