Here's a question I hope someone can answer.
Take a look at the pic below and tell me why the wiring on an '86 is different from the '87 and up 'stangs. The plug on the left is the new one I got for my alternator... it is the same as a factory plug on an '87 and up and has 3 wires. The plug in the middle ismy old plug, it only has 2 wires and the green one is in the middle instead of on the opposite end from the yellow one like the new one. The plug on theright is the old "big" plug and only has the two power wires that go to the starter relay, but no stator wire. All the 3G write ups I've read say leave the small plug as it is and plug it into the new alternator... then cut the big plug off and attach the two power wires to the terminalon the new alternator along with a 4 gauge wire to the starter relay. Then attach the singe small clip wire that comes with the alternator to the smaller 3rd wire from the big plug and clip it into the stator blade on the new alternator. From whatI have found, the white wire on the small plug makes a "U" turn and connects to the small wire on the big plug. There has to be someone out there who has run into this when putting a 3G on an '86 and can tell me which wires go where. I don't want to fry anything by hooking it up wrong, but I want to get this stupid problem figured out soon.
