Default detonation while at a steady spead?

While I'm just crusing alonea a certain speed 30 40 50 whatever I keep thinking I'm hearing detonation. My timing is set a about 14/15. I thought detonation only occurs aunder heavy loads? Any Idea if it could be detonation or any other suggestions of what it could be?

It's a 331 built more for a super charger/dished piston but right now its n/a. I've had the problem through more then one tank of gas, I run 93. Ya it could be like a backfire its hard to explain. while just crusing at a steady spead you can hear a reacuring backfire sound but it is very faint. I hope this helps. I was told by the shop that made my moter it could be because of the cam. Not 10% on the exact specs but its a pretty stout cam, but is suppose to still be computer friendly. Will try to look up vcam specs if you thnk it will help.Otherwise I have every bolt on from intake to exhaust can get more specific if you think it wil help. I'll put together a list tomm. THANKS for the response!!!
