Well tfi isn't expensive so I'll replace that just because. But will that cause the power/fuel loss type situation. Because it seems like when it happens I press on the gas and just pops and dies, then it would want to start but it doesnt, I would have to keep it rev'd high so it won't shut off

Sounds like the popping comes from the CAI, forgot to give that piece of info

Either get a fuel pressure gauge that you can view while driving it, or drive it till it will not start any more, then check for fuel pressure , and spark..... One will be missing.
