I have a 1991 mustang gt 5.0. I have not crank this car in 3 years. I just bought a battery for it. When I take off from being park I hear 1 knocking noise. Only happens every time I take off from being park. And there is white smoke coming from engine I can smell it inside the car. I trying to get it running right . Any help would be appreciated thanks

First, don't drive the car anymore. It's telling you something is wrong. It gets real expensive if you don't listen to it.

The knocking sound, is it a tick,tick,tick or bigger knocking like there's marbles inside your motor?

Does the white smoke stop once the car warmed up ? Is there any white smoke coming from the tailpipe?

3 years is a long time to sit, I think I would have put a little oil down the cylinders, drain the old gas out of the tank.

I bet that knock your hearing is preignition knock because of the old gas that's in it. And that smoke is probly because there is a lot of gunk and stuff in the cylinders.

The knocking sound stop. the white smoke is coming from middle of the car on top of the exhaust. I going to tune up this weekend. Oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap and rotar. Anything else I can do let me know please thanks

That smoke is probly just due to setting and stuff dripped on the exhaust headers or mid pipe.
