Default torque converter question

do you have to pull the transmission to change the torque converter? 1967 convertible, 289, c4.

i upgraded my converter when i built the motor - but i think i missed it by 500 - 1000 to low.

If all you are going to do is replace the converter, I would take it to a shop.
They can have your car on a lift and the transmission dropped in 20 min.
They have the tools that make the job easy.
A good shop will charge you time and material, and it shouldent take more than1 or 2 hours tops.

I only say this because I used to work for a tansmission shop when I was younger, and at that time, for a rear wheel drive car, I held the removal record time of 7min.
I tried to take my own transmission out at home on jack stands, took me 2 hours to get it out. and at least that long to get it back in.
My body achs and pains lasted 3 days.

What makes you think your converter is off?
Whats your stall speed?
What type of cam do you have?
What is your car doing that makes you think your stall speed is off?

Default RE: torque converter question

the main reason is the guy who put it in - i have found over the last several years that the man i thought was the supreme mechanic on fords is a little shady - to put it midly.

when i idle the car high enought to keep it running - it pulls too much when sitting still, like at a traffic light. my cam is 230 duration and a 512 lift. @ .050.

the main reasn is that the car won't spin the wheel from a dead stop - and i don't even have a traction lock rear. i should be able to burn the tire off.
