Default oil temp gauge ?

ok so i just got my new tach in today... its a 4 in 1 combo... it has the tach, water temp, oil presure, and oil temp gauge all in one, the directions are very basic and i know how to hook every thing up except the oil temp.... it came with a little stud that screws in and a wire is attached and it reads the temp... where do i put the stud to read the oil temp.... i know the water temp is on the intake manifold and it uses the same type of stud so what about the oil?

Use a tee and take the temp at the pressure sender.

you dont need a T. Just take the sending unit out and put the new one.I say this way just cuz its less things hooked up which i like but a T isnt wrong per se.

If he takes out the pressure sender he'lllose his oil pressure indication. Personally, I would much prefer oil press over oil temp. Anyway, another alternative is to mountthe oil temp senderin the oil pan but you really need to do it right or you'll live with oil leaks forever.

You should hook up the temp gauge to you tranny, that way you can keep an eye on it's temp. Heat kills trannys.

Plus one on RobbieG's post. Also the tee Idea at the pressure sender won't work the way it is supposed to. In order to get a half-ways accurate tempin a line like that, there has to be fluid flow over the sending unit, other wise you are only reading the temp of the fitting itself, and not the fluid. (also there is effectively no flow at allat the pressure sender, however if you were running an oil cooler a tee inline with that would probably work ok). If it were me I would use thegauge to monitor trans temp (add a tee into the outgoing cooling line and put the sender there, orinstall the sender in the pan.

+1 on what RobbieG said. Your engine oil temp will be close to your water temp, just a little hotter. Your tranny is where it should be at. I assume you have an automatic? You can look for a plug somewhere near your pan or you can install it inline on your cooling line going to the radiator. Or you can install a remote tranny filter then install it on that housing. I have a perma-cool remote filter on my dodge ram, it has a threaded hole for a temp sensor.
