Value of '65 or '66 Convertibles?
I must be a sucker for punishment...
Providing this snow storm lets up by tomorrow, I'm heading across the state (Connecticut, so only 2-2 1/2hours) to look at a '65 or '66 Convertible. The guy's father had five cars which he's been unloading slowly. The last two were in the worst shape - a '65 or '66 convertible (he's not sure), and '67 Fastback (someone just put a deposit, he wanted $500(!) for the body; sounds like it was in semi decent shape).
He said the Convertible is a 4bbl with some extra trim... sounds like a GT A code. He's asking $2500, and I have no idea what shape it's in, but from his rough description it sounds like it'sonly alittle worse than my current project. Providing it isn't rotted to the ground, I might ****** it up, now that I know where to look for problems (in the process of doing rear frame rails andleaf springson the coupe...). If it does turn out to be one, how rare were the GT A code convertibles? Is this just an "average" car, or something that's really worth some attention?
The only problem is, I can't really afford it right now. If it's worth it, I'll buy it regardless...

Good to know. I know the K codes are always rare, and I highly doubt it's one of those. The A code / GT trim would just be one more thing to sweeten the package then.
Thanks for the reply.

RE: Value of '65 or '66 Convertibles?
some GTAs came as S-code as well as far as I know (from 67)
390ci big block.
if it's a 67 S-code GTA convertible, I'd absolutely love it. when the car is complete (engine drivetrain) i'd take it straight away for that kinda money. but can't tell without pictures

A convertible for $2,500? It's got to be in rough shape. Even 6 cylinder convertibles in decent shape are fetching 12-15 grand and nice V8 ones are going for 17-27 grand.
Where in CT? I woulder if I know the huy?

If it helps you any, I just bought a '65 C code vert w/ factory 4 speed, pony interior and power top for $3500.00. It also came with an extra 289. It has a fair amount of rustin the usual spots but the body panel gaps are nice and no sagging yet. So if you can get a halfway decent A code for $2500.00 it would be a pretty sweet deal IMO or even a sweeter deal if it is a factory GT. Better ****** it up mang ,I really think you can't go wrong.
