Two Transmission Questions
Alright I haven't been around in awhile but I need something so I'm back. But seriously I have been separated from my car for a few months and it has been rather painful, I miss it. But to the questions.
Seeing that I will be reunited with my car soon, hopefully, I am possibly going to buy something nice for it with my tax return money. I want to do a t5/cable clutch conversion to it, its a 3 speed manual right now. I was looking for a cost and work estimate from the people who have done it before. What exactly did you need to do it parts and tool wise, and how much the parts cost, minus the trans. I probably should up the rear gears too, probably 3.55s or 3.73s.
The other is the safe useage of my current 3 speed attached to my 289. How good/bad is it for modern highway speeds of 70mph? The original owners manual that came with it says 3rd is for 40-60mph. Would a roadtrip of a few hundred miles be a mistake?

RE: Two Transmission Questions
Pffft, I still use my 3sp at 70mph for 4 hour trips:P And that's with 3.25 gears, so the engine's spinning ~3300 at that speed. I used to make that drive every month or two, and I've never had any problems. Those 3.03 3 speeds are basically indestructible, don't worry about it
Also keep in mind, 3rd gear in your 3sp is the same as 4th gear in a 4sp. It's still 1:1.
