instrument lights
i've searched, and searchd on here but nothing pertaining exactly to mine.
the cluster lights worked fine before i took them out to put on the white gauges. -- i plugged everything back in correctly and such and now the cluster lights don't work. the turn signals work, and the brake warning works as does the wiper switch.
i tapped the dimmer and bam. the centermost light (where clock is) turns on, and one to the right does. but only hwen u tap the dimmer switch for high beams they come on red, turn off high beams, whole cluster is off. everything else works.... i checked the fuse the other day and it's fine. soooo what else can i check? all the bulbs looked fine when i pulled it off so.. ? am i missing something.. or am i seriously just dumb.. RE: instrument lights
You are missing something, and I know you are not dumb!!
But electrical issues can be difficult. Do the dash lights dim when you turn the headlight switch?
This is going to be difficult to handle remotely... but we need to see what is out of place...
I am giving up for the evening, but I will look at the schematics in the faq tomorrow to see if I can find a hint...
I will get back on this thread tomorrow..

RE: instrument lights
the dash lights aren't even on at all. when u turn on the headlights thats it. u click the dimmer for high beams and the 'lights' come on.. but only like 1 or 2 and they're red, they wont change colors either. so.. i must of done something to it, but i also noticed when i put my cluster back in it doesnt go in all the way it's stuck out some so maybe i jammed someting in there or whatever :/

RE: instrument lights
can agree to what az1966 is saying. If I have my cluster out the instument lights will not come out as they have nmo ground.
The cluster has to be mounted in car for them to work, not just hanging loose.
And a cluster that does not go in is usually the case of a speedo cable not (or not properly) connected

RE: instrument lights
Salik,
Take it from an auto electrician/electrical engineer. When things get wierd, there's a ground problem. The panel has to be grounded so that the lamp socets will ground. the +5 v reg has no effect on the lighting so ignore that input (above). When you click the dimmer it changes a ground path. There should be 1 wire between the panel and the cars frame. clean both ends of it after you confirm both ends are connected. good hunting!
