How do I know if my voltage regulator is mechanical or electric?
Ok so I'm trying to tackle the headlight dimming problem and first I want to make sure my voltage regulator is electric i really don't know how to tell...
then i was going to do a little more research and do the relay thing so I can have them brighter but thats for next weekend
my regulator says on it
F540-1
0775 CN 12V
and here is a picture
if its just 15 bucks for a electric one i'll replace it anyways but is there any specific one i need or just pretty much a 12v regulator from autozone will work?

Looks electronic (they're all "electric"), but if you replace it, get a good one from Napa (ECH VR440). A good unit should run you $40-70, depending on where you get it from. $15 is going to be a cheap pos. And yes, there is a difference.

I went to Auto Zone and asked for an Electronic one. I paid about $25 and it solved my lights flickering problem. It was rep[aced well over a year ago and has worked fine. They only offered me the one I got. If there was a better more expensive one they didn't tell me.
