Angry Overheated Engine = Cut Off

If an engine gets too hot while driving, would it cut off for a few seconds then start back up? I have this problem. Didn't have this problem until I installed electronic ignition. Unfortunately, I installed a new carb at the same time so I don't know if the carb or the ignition is the cause. So, I'm gonna reinstall the points and condensor first and see if the problem stops. Could a failing coil make the engine stop then start back up?

first of all, never change two things at the same time if you're not confident (i always make that mistake as well).
I once had that problem as well with a pertronix, it was caused by a loose screw that holds the vacuum canister to the distributor. That same screw is used to ground the module inside the distributor. So don't change back to points yet. make sure all wires have good connection and all screws are tight first.

I say ignition, probably the COIL, but possibly the module/box, ESPECIALLY if the engine is either ON or OFF quickly...

COULD be vapor lock, but if this is the case, the car would be more likely to sputter in and out.....

So, if the engine just falls dead, the problem is more likely to be ignition, if it sputters in and out, it could be a fuel or ignition I say about 50/50.

If it were me, for the first step, I would change out the coil, worst case it ain't the coil and you will still have a spare for future troubleshooting/replacement.

Could be. Has seen them shut off at about 235. How long before you can re-start it ?
