Default Trouble shifting gears from 1st to 2nd in a 3spd manual

I have trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd intermittently( about once in 10 shifts) on my 64.5. The shifter will bind up in between shifting from 1st to 2nd even with the car NOT running. So I assume that eliminates the clutch as a cause. I have rebuild the shifter and shifter box. I have also aligned the linkage. None of this helped. I removed the transmission and opened it for inspection. I could not see any obvious damage such as broken or worn gear teeth. What is my next move? Transmission shop? Buy a used transmission?

Do you have the 3-speed trunnions or 4-speed trunnions in the shift handle? I use the 4-speed type in everything. The washers on the shoulder bolts should be a special thick, hardened bolt, hardware store stuff doesn't cut it.

Could be the shifter is simply too worn to get the trans clicked into neutral when the shifter leaves the gear. You can arrange to have your shifter remanufactured by Glazier Nolan.
