For 1 year, you don't even need to drain the tank.
Put Stabol (gas storage treatment) in the tank and the gas is good for 12 months,,,,and I can personally attest, it does work for 12 months.
Besides, they do let you come home once-in-a while on "leave",, so you can drive your baby!

Mice is more of a problem, but easy fix. Just get a box of Bounce dryer sheets
and leave the box open inside the car. The car will smell "dryer fresh" but there will be
no mouse nests under the dash or chewed wires. Those buggers can get in the smallest holes but are repelled by the smell of the dryer sheets.
