Default 1966 Mustang Tail/Break Issues - What is this connection??

Hey Guys,

Newbie here. Interesting problem. Short version: my tail, turn signal and break lights do not work (fuel gauge and reverse lights work).

I have replaced the break switch and all wiring to the trunk with a new wiring harness (14405). I have tested all the bulbs, and if you bypass the light switch - the tail lights do work.

The break lights never work. I have taken a mulitmeter back there and get nothing. I have checked all fuses, all fuses are good.

Ive noticed this weird connection - but cant find anything it plugs into. Any idea what this is???

Im referring to the one on the right with 4 circles. I know it has to do with the turn signals or tail lights but cant find anything to plug it in to?

Also, do the break lights have anything to do with any other wiring than the 5 wire harness (14405) going from the trunk back to the connectors under the dash? From there it goes to the break switch (which i replaced). If i bypass everything and just go down the wires, the bulbs do work.

I noticed on the wiring diagrams this:

I can not find that 10 amp circuit breaker anywhere. Does that have anything to do with tail/break lights? Does it even exist?

Any help is much appreciated....

have you checked the turn signal switch in your steering column?

Would the turn signal switch just effect the turn signals or would that also effect the tail lights?

The 4 prong connector appears to be the remainder of the hazard light switch switch that goes in the glove box. Just a guess..

Your turn signal switch would effect all of your lights in the rear. If you take a look at the wiring schematic you will see they all at some point run through the turn signal switch.

That four prong thingy is the hazard switch that goes in your glove box, the wiring schematic reflects that too..

If the warning switch in your car is the later integral later type, you are screwed. The early warning system was jumped in at the column, so if you simply remove the jumper you'll get your stuff working. Of course, it's illegal to not have flashers in 66-up vehicles, so just buy a new switch and you'll be fine.
