Default Plug gap w/ Duraspark (small cap)

I had another thread (Duraspark II bad on '68 390GT?) - I decided to replace MSD balster 2 coil, ign control module & dist ign pickup (I believe this was the problem) - car started & ran - I then pulled all plugs & re-gapped them to the recom .045 (stock .032-.036 w/ points) to re-time but now it wont run at all - I have read that if I run @ .045 I need the big dist cap but others say they run the original/small cap - not sure what to do - only other thing I did was put dilectric grease on plug wire boots so they wont stick
thanks for any info on this! Paul

I don't think the gap is your problem. .045 sounds about right.

I guess you verified your firing order/wiring? Is the distributor loose and get bumped out of whack?

yep, firing order/wiring are verified - I think I've figured it out - from what I've read, I need the big dist cap, adapter & matching rotor for plugs gapped to .045-.050 - the dist did get turned while I screwed w/ it but it should be close - I took photo prior to being turned & have it in vicinity - now i need to find someone who has it in stock (need the adapter) - I'd like to get a black one but might not have choice - I've been trying to keep it as stock as possible although pretty obvious not original ignition

Ah that's a little far from me Im up close to bowling green.

I had to get the bigger cap for my 68 302 when I went duraspark also , because it was popping and at about 4500 rpm it would loose all power like the guts just dropped out of it.

I had a hell of a time finding that adaptor with out buying a distributor. I ended up going to the junk yard up in Toledo Picked up a 4bbl 289 interceptor intake for my new carb and while I was there I found an old bronco with the duraspark crap and robbed it of its distributor adaptor
