Question 289 stutters under power

so i was out cruising today and about 25 minutes into the ride the motor started to stutter under power ie going up a hill or just accelerating. I do not know weather this is an engine or a trans problem

it is a 65 mustang with a 289 and an fmx trans thanks

Sounds like a possible ignition issue. Check the basics. Distributor Cap,rotor, wires, plugs.

Could be a lot of things....but it all comes down to 3, fuel, air or spark. Bad cap/rotor, plugs, wires, coil, clogged fuel filter, trash in a carb, bad gas, too lean etc.

If it runs fine until the weather or engine temp changes then it's most likely a fuel ratio issue or weak ignition.

If its okay on flat ground but has issues under load its possible that it could be a fuel pump...Does it run strong at full accel from a dead stop to 70MPH+? If its badass through first gear but a few seconds into 2nd it falls on its face its most certainly fuel volume issue (secondary to fuel pump or fuel filter or line blockage)....If it pulls strong through all gears past 70mph...probably not a fuel pump issue.

Have you ever replaced the coil? May be a heat problem in the coil. Did it stutter all the way back home? Did it start the next day or an hour later and run OK for 20 minutes?
