98 V6 Mustang Linkage Cable
Hello,
I have a 98 V6 Mustang with 150,000km on it. Sadly the linkage cable on the shifter (Automatic) gave out. I have been told from the shop this part alone is 400$ from ford. I have also just bought a new ranger 4x4, but am thinking of still fixing the stang as its in great shape other wise. They also told me that the linkage cable fits onto a ball that hooks it to the transmission. The "ball part" (Never gave me a name for it) is discontinued and you can't get it from ford. They think that part might still hold the cable in place, but cant know for sure with out getting the cable if it will work, or if I will need to find this "ball part".
My question to the forum users is if it is worth fixing on a car that the value of the car best case is $3000 worth doing. If so is it worth looking into used parts from a wrecker, or is that a hopeless cause to get used transmission cables?
I really like the stang and would hate to see it die for a cable, but also dont want to do this if it will turn into a money pit. I have this year done breaks, exhaust, a front spring, and tires on it. Other than this since getting the car in 2002 it has only been common stuff like break pads, etc. The Mustang gods have really been good to her up till now.

That is a pretty car in nice shape (love the color) and you should be able to find a used replacement linkage/cable assy from a car being parted out on Craigslist pretty easily. There are always 94-98 v6 Mustangs on there being parted out and you would not have a problem finding a replacement for cheap I am sure.
