Default Torque Specs / Chrome Wheels

In another thread here, somebody mentioned that it was possible to crack chrome wheels by overtightening them, so it was good to put them on with a torque wrench.

That's good advice - thanks...

Question: What torque specs should I use when putting my chrome wheels on the car?

Check with the manufaurer of the wheels. Be sure to re torque them a couple of times they can come loose after 20 or so miles. Personaly i used to work in a tire shop and never cracked a chorme wheel just make sure you have someone that knows how to mount tires and never I MEAN NEVER USE FIX A FLAT!!!!! that stuff will rust out a steel wheel make a aluminum wheel pitted and corroded but the worse thing it will do is get under the chrome cause the chrome to peel. I have seen it work its way under the tire bead and cause the wheel to not hold air.

Well Its not always about cracking the rim... but breaking/stripping the stud. Usually torque specs are between 80 and 110 ft lbs for aluminum rims, but dont hold me too it, ive never done wheels on a mustang. Check the owners manual.
