2003 3.8L won't start
Hi Guys,
I went to start my 3.8L and it would turn over just fine but would not start. I checked the schrader fuel pressure valves and they do not spit out gas. I checked the inertia switch in the truck and the button has not popped up (I try to push the button but it can not be pushed). When you turn power to the car, the fuel pump does not run. I turned the ignition on and off several times to reset the system and that did not help. The car ran perfect the day before it would not start. The theft system seems to be working fine and no error codes read. Before I buy a fuel pump and take the car to the shop, I was hoping to get someone elses input. I always assumed fuel pumps went off an on intermittantly before completely crapping out.
Thanks,
Dean

Start with the basics. Test the battery to make sure it has between 12.4 & 12.8 volts. If not, charge it. If the battery checks out, test the fuses with a fuse tester (available at your local auto parts store for a couple bucks) or multi-meter set to continuity test. If they all check out, not just the fuel pump fuse, swap the fuel pump relay with the relay for your starter and see if you can hear the pump turn on when you turn the key. If you do, then the relay is bad. If you don't hear the pump, have a buddy stick his/her ear near the relay when you turn the key. There should be an audible click. If not, then power and/or ground is not getting to the relay's pin 86 and/or pin 85 respectively. If you do, then the relay is working properly. Next test if the connector for pin 30 has power (it should be directly connected to the battery, and is the power feed for the fuel pump). If not, then there is a break in the wires between pin 30 & the battery. If you do, then climb under the car and test if the fuel pump is getting power when you turn the key. If not, then there is a break between the relay & the pump... If you get through all that, then I would start to consider replacing the fuel pump...
Good luck...

I had somewhat the same problem a few weeks ago, I was doing maintenance on my 00 v6 (fuel filter, oil filter, check air filter) and I went to take off and it ran about 200 ft and died, and would not start again. My fix was pretty simple though after checking everything I could to see if it was working I simply had to unhook the battery for about a minute and then hook it back up and it started. Next time I am trouble shooting my 00v6 I will make sure to unhook the battery first.
