Deciding with to Plasti-Dip my wheels
#11
I'm just looking at doing the wheels myself. The car is already black. I'm looking at doing a murdered-out exterior. I've just typically not done stuff to cars myself except stereos (only replaced the head unit in the stang...and full stereo in a 99 eclipse) and did a ram intake on the eclipse. I get a little nervous about messing something up.

Well vader you really cant mess up plasti-dip thats the great part of it. I think goof-off is one product you can use to get it off but don't quote me on it haha. And if your comfortable taking the wheel off, I would do that if at all possible. By doing that you can get a better angle at the wheel so you will not miss parts. If you dont have the time, then masking the car and doing them on the car would be just fine

I plastidipped my rims black with a glossifier, and I have a few things to say.
1. I loved the look of it when I finished, it was nicely finished. I did it with the wheels on in about 30 minutes taking my time between coats, making sure the can sprayed properly (make sure it is warm day with the can is warm).
2. Glossifier doesn't do anything, don't waste your money on it.
3. I bought the rim kit from dipyourcar. it is way too much plasti dip, more than you need. 2-3 cans is good if you go heavy coats.
4. I ADVISE AGAINST DIPPING YOUR RIMS THOUGH. After about 3 months, my rims started collecting brake dust, which became impossible to remove effectively. It turned the rims into a brownish black which was ugly. One day power washing my rims they started to peel off so I said F it, peeled everything EXCEPT the hubcaps. Now I run plastidipped stock hubcaps which looks pretty good IMO.
5. Make sure if you do dip them with the wheels on the car, to drive the car forward 1/2 a foot or so so you can spray evenly everywhere.
sanding your rims is not necessary, uh...i think that covers everything i know

I did have the wheels off but thats because they are my spring/summer wheels! You could do the same! Take 3x5 notecards and place them between the wheel and tire! I guess you could maybe do it with the wheels on the car! Also, you can buy plastidip at home depot, autozone, advanced auto, lowes are where ive seen it
