Default DR in rain?

I bought a pair of cheap tires, seem to do fairly well, but I really want some DR in the back. Some of the local car guys here run them yearly, but I never had a chance to ask them questions.

My questions are they dangerous in the rain? I'm not going to be hot roding it around town when it's wet out, but for general driving into town, going down the freeway, taking turns at recommended speeds in wet conditions. Would it be safe? Also the DR i'm looking at is a 275/40/17, I think it would fit my wheel that normally fits 245/45/17, correct?

This is what i'm looking at.

Doyon,

The Nitto's you're looking at have a Wet Traction rating of 7.5-8 out of 10! So they definitely do fine in the rain as long as you're careful. They'll get out from under you easier then a street tire if not driven properly (in the rain).

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions! Our Mustang Experts are here Monday-Friday from 9AM-9PM EST and Saturdays from 9AM-5:30PM EST. If you want to hit them up, their number is 866.727.1266. I can also have one of them call you directly.

As long as it doesn't dip below 15F in your are you are fine. Drag radials (and most high performance summer type tires) have issues below those temps and can actually fail prematurely if you push them hard in those conditions. At the very least you end up getting weather cracks. See here for the actual disclaimer from nitto.

nittos are good until a point then no rain traction at all. Trust me just ended up in a ditch doing 45 in a 75 because of the rain and still lost it. 45 in sixth gear I can tell you it wasnt because I was putting to much power down. car just started drifted.
