This Volvo 740 Cobra Will End You, Then Go Mini Golfing

Sleepers are one of the best and most exciting parts about automotive culture. A sleeper is when somebody cooks up a mischievous crazy idea, actually executes it, then goes about his or her day smoking people who think they actually have a fast car, when in reality, it’s probably just some regular cup-of-joe picked off the lot.
Today’s dose of DayQuil comes courtesy of a 1970 Volvo 740 Wagon with a 340-horsepower Ford Motorsports Cobra FI crate motor in it. And it’s for sale, where else, but on Craigslist. The listing is extremely thorough, complete with a reference to Paul Newman’s and David Letterman‘s amazing Volvo V8s.
The wagon has a huge list of mods on top of the engine, including a T-5 transmission, Flowmaster’s dual exhaust, a new fuel system, Bilstein struts, Tokico shocks, and about 100 other things.
Oh, one last note. The seller does admit that it’s not FULLY a sleeper, because the exhaust is quite hearty. “Hilarious to see guys in Camaros, Mustangs and Vettes (or turbo Civics) at a stop light looking around trying to determine where that mean rumble is coming from,” the listing says. “That’s half the fun.”
Or all the fun for just $10,000.
