Unicorn Base Model Mustang With 289 K Code

The K code Mustang is popular mostly on the GT models, so to find a base model with all of the 289 high-output options is exceedingly rare. Wearing original red on red paint and leather, the 1965 example in the V8TV video below is about as original as it gets, which is probably why they called it their “Muscle Car of the Week.”

The 289 was usually found in GT form. Add to that the unusual option of assisted brakes in combination with drums – this was usually paired with disc brakes – and that makes this car really one of very few. Given that most attention is paid to Mustangs named “GT” or very well known performance Mustangs of this ilk, this base 289 high output is a unicorn among early Mustang collectors.

With the new Mustang out, do any of you see these specifically equipped mustangs becoming more valuable? Some of the early examples are fetching some pretty large numbers at recent auctions, so perhaps a more nostalgic soul might retrieve this fine example.
