The 2018 GT350 Won’t Get the Refreshed New Visuals, but the Mighty Mustang Lives to Drive Another Day.

As you may have heard by now, Ford is introducing a refreshed Mustang in 2018, and with it, we are getting a replacement for the GT500. Exciting news to be sure, but it has left a lot of folks worried about the GT350. With its custom body work and expensive engine, there was talk that the car might die when the refresh happened. You can breathe a sigh of relief though, as it seems that the angriest ‘Stang currently available will survive the 2018 refresh.

According to Motor Authority, some dealer ordering info has popped up, and the Shelby GT350 is still on the list — meaning that the car will live on into the future. That said, thanks to its custom bodywork and bespoke parts, it won’t actually receive any of the visual tweaks and upgrades coming to the new Mustang models. Of course, as it already looks incredible, I’m not sure that is such a bad thing.

But moving on to dig deeper into this rumor-pile, there may be a few new transmissions coming with the visual refresh. A 10-speed is supposedly slated for the “normal” Mustang, which will allow it to more evenly compete with the new Camaro. And we are hearing whispers that the Shelby GT350 could be getting a dual-clutch unit. Nothing about a transmission change showed up in the dealer paperwork though, so it’s all just hearsay at the moment.

Rest assured, we will keep our ears to the ground and continue trying to dig up details. In the meantime, take some solace in the fact that the GT 350 will live on. If you haven’t managed to get your hands on one yet, you at least have another year or two to make it happen. I, for one, happily welcome a world with more flat-plane crank V8 Mustangs in it.
