Mustang Splits in Two in Street Race, Driver Walks Away!

By -

Lack of a roll cage–and street racing–could have been the end for this driver. Instead, he got a stark lesson that safety always comes first.

There comes a time when your Mustang build has so much power, you won’t be allowed on the drag strip until you add safety equipment, such as a roll cage, a parachute, and a fire extinguisher. These and other safety bits will keep you from being bashed to bits should your Mustang explode into a thousand bits off the line.

Otherwise, you could end up like the driver of this purple Mustang that  1320 Video caught on camera at a street drag at an undisclosed location.

“We got ‘Side Piece,’ ya heard me. He from New Orleans,” says the unidentified and obscured man in the video prior to the race. “And he’s the ‘Purple Kush.’ He from Mississippi.” The man adds that “Side Piece” is a Mustang with a small block Ford, while “Purple Kush” is powered by an LS motor, and both are racing for $1,600.

After both Mustangs perform a massive burnout through the gathering on either side (also a dangerous and stupid thing to do on both sides of the equation), the racers line back up before the flag man flicks the light to send them on their way.

Seconds later, “Purple Kush” loses control and slams hard into a light and power pole, smoke spewing from the wreckage.

Once the smoke clears, the scope of the crash is horrific. In short, the Mustang was split in half on the right side upon hitting the pole. Miraculously, not only did the driver survive, but because the roof cleared the driver’s side completely, he was easily pulled out of the wreck.

“Miraculously the driver walked away from this accident with only a broken jaw, missing teeth, and a broken shoulder,” 1320video says at the end of the video. “We hope that racers will see this video and apply some of the same important safety equipment that’s required at the track when they race on the street in cars of this caliber.”
