Shelby GT500 Takes On Road Course

The Shelby Mustang GT500 isn’t exactly a byword for road race performance, so it’s refreshing to see one out there, let alone one that has some huge numbers emanating from the back wheels. Over 650, actually. Props to this owner for braving what is not exactly the GT500’s home turf. Although Carroll himself would be proud, as his start came in the form of road racing.

Now, I can’t say this was the finest display of driving skill behind the wheel. Criticism aside — as an instructor, I’d have plenty to opine about in this display of “driving” — the car is quite capable of taking a lick and exiting the corner okay. Personally, if I were in the passenger seat, I’d likely be shouting my lungs out, but I digress.

Honestly, road course Mustangs are my weak spot. And even though my inner instructor is trying to critique every braking point, turn in, apex (or lack thereof), and so forth, every driver starts from somewhere. As a community of Mustang guys, I’d love to help with advice. Maybe some day I’ll see him and that awesome GT500 at the track.
