What is your definition of light weight? If it means under 20lbs then you are severly limited on your choices. EdgeRacing.com is one of the few sites that actually lists rim weights.

I have a set of 5Zigen FN01Rs in 17x9, weigh 18lbs. I think their 18" are under 20lbs. Come in a large variety of finishes. Got them from DiscountTire. Enkei makes some nice light weight rims.

A 315 tire requires at least a 10.5 inch rim, don't know if you would have issues. 285/40 will work, its a ~27 inch diameter and requires at least 9.5" rim. Check out http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculator.aspfor more size info.

Pic of the 5Zigen's - My reason for getting them was the lightest rim at a reasonable price. I also have a set of deep dish bullits for every day usage, beautiful but heavy:

Try the Roush Track Pack rims, 18x10's and only 26 lbs I think.

Expensive though, $530 a peice.

The tires in that photo are Falken RT-615 255/40/17. They are not a good street tire (although I drive to/from events with them on), the tread wear rating is too low and the overall diameter is ~25" (car sits very low with them on). But I like the tires a lot for AX...for the price they work very well (R-Comps would work even better but they are pricey).

What about INVO's 255/50/17's.

260 treadwear and I have heard good things. I am going to give them a try next.

I know there's a local guy that has 315 555R's on a 17" wheel. I don't know how wide it is, but I THINK it's only a 10". All the extra sidewall from being only a 17" wheel does give you some room to wiggle with size though..

As for lightweight, a 315 is going to handle like crap with the amount of sidewall you'll have in there. Why do you want lightweight? Handling? If you aren't looking for the car to sit like Argonaut's, then look at 20's. Yes, they are heavy, but with so little sidewall they are almost glued to the road in the twisties, very little sidewall flex. Straight-line traction is a different store. And if you're worried about the extra weight slowing you down, just get a blower. That's what I did.
