You can actually get really good results with spray cans. It's the paint quality that matters most.

My car got vandalized several months ago and the kids pulled my side mirrors off and smashed them. I got the replacement mirrors and a can of OEM paint from www.touchuppaintonline.com. Just primered the mirrors, painted them, then clearcoat.

I am pretty picky about paint and I really don't see the difference between the new paint and the factory paint.

Just make sure you sand it in between coats since you might get some bug marks on there if you are painting it outside.

Sanding primer with 1200 might cause peeling later on or easy chipping.
800 grit would be the finest I'd go before painting.
Primer has to be coarse enough for the paint to bite.

Also, did you use any Adhesion Promoter before priming?

I bought my "Sharpe HVLP" Many years ago about 300 then. But I just used a friends Summit racing HVLP set that cost him about 150.00 for 3 guns and it worked fine. Check them out I think See link: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DVR-802343/?rtype=10
They are made by DeVilbliss.

Personally, I would have a professional do it, regardless whether it is interior or exterior. The guy who does it for me always gives me good prices so that would be an easy decision for me. Painting the interior yourself might not be too bad though.

nope. was actually 1000 on the primer and 1200 on the paint. so far the results are awesome for 35 bucks. if i have any problems later on, it will just repaint them.

nope. was actually 1000 on the primer and 1200 on the paint. so far the results are awesome for 35 bucks. if i have any problems later on, it will just repaint them, and use a lower grit on the primer.
