Hold the button in on the E-Brake, holding the E-Brake up; clutch in; you will not roll back. As you gradually release the clutch and feel the car wanting to roll forward, gradually release the E-Brake. You can get so good at this the guy behind you will think you have an automatic; after more experience you won't need to use this technique unless maybe you are stopped on the access climb road to Mt Washington. practice a few times once in a while; you will not be hurting the car withthis technique; it's all quite gradual touch here. (Remember to keep E-Brake button in during this process) ...easy to learn; try it and avoid the embarrassment of rolling backward. Might be a GT40 behind you on that hill. (lol)
This is exactly how pull my boat up the ramp when taking it out of the water. This is really the ONLY way to start off in a standard in a situation where you HAVE to hold the brake in while sitting still and can't afford a quick start (Break traction on a steep, wet boat ramp and you are screwd')

If you're just driving (not racing), just start in second gear.

1) clutch in with left foot.

2) trans in first gear.

3) mash gas pedal with right foot.

4) When tach says 5000+, slide left foot immediately to the left, allowing clutch to engage sharply.

5)Each time tach says ~6000, repeat steps 1-4 but increment gear position by 1. Right foot can stay mashed to the floor at all times.

6) Boys and girls do not try this at home.

i could sit here for hours and tell you how to finesse the clutch, when to give it gas, when to let out the clutch, etc, but its not going to do you any good. the only way to learn is to PRACTICE and get as much experience as you can. if you know the basic concept, your fine, just keep working on it, eventually youll get it. one suggestion i can make is let the clutch out slowly. usually if u get too eager, youll jerk forward or stall. just my $.02

by the way im 17 and my stang is a 5 speed, been driving stick since 15 so i have a little experience lol.

If your car begins to shudder press the clutch pedal back in, not the gas. It will only take a short time to get it right. You can realistically pulse the clutch pedal and never give it gas at all, just push it in a little when it begins to shudder. Once you get it moving at idle you are free to do whatever you want with the gas. But this method of pulsing the clutch at idle will teach you how to "feel" your car. Once you get to understand what a stall is going to feel like you will have no more problems getting more aggressive because a stall feels the same at any engine RPM. With the torque we make you can start from idle in almost any situation. This will give you the "feel" for when your car is going to stall.
