Switches and where to put them?
i need to mount three rocker type toggle switches. any ideas on where to mount them? i'm thinking in the dash between the a/c vents but i don't know how that panel comes off or whats behind it. pics of finished installs would be very helpful. thanks!

I don't know if you want to cut up your dash.
How about making a brushed plate or black plastic material close to your trim with the 3 rocker switches.
Get a piece of black pvc pipe that fits into the cup holder closer to the shifter and cut it to size.
Attach the plate to the pvc pipe. Run the wiring thru the cup holder (if you have to drill a hole you can on the bottom the the cup holder), or maybe thru he false bottom on the second one. If you need to attach to pipe you can somewhere down there figure something out.
Here's a little quick drawing of what I mean.
It's just an idea so don't think I'm nuts.

country you are a genius! then i could put quick connects on the wires and still have my cupholders on the street. i'm still going to pull the console out to check for clearance on the other spots and search for a place to mount my line lock switch also. my switches have a silver bezel around them so they will match the dash panel and look somewhat factory. i don't mind cutting up the car. as long as it is a replaceable panel and not the main structure of the dash. i do like your idea though.

Steeda has these babies. Yeah, for nitrous I know, but the idea could be expanded upon... ya know?? They're factory fit to the cup holders so a similiar custom fab would look pretty cool IMO.

i'll miss my cupholder though. where will i put my tire gauge? i think i'm drilling holes in the conole just right of the shifter. unless i can access the back of the dash somewhere up by the a/c vents. also where can i get custom labels for the switches? i want some that look good not the old plastic squeeze trigger label maker. maybe a sign shop can cut some vinyl lettering really small.

chevykiller, that's exactly what I did. I got the basic switch to use for my line locks. It's perfect, it is a momentary switch and it has a safety cover so it doesn't get bumped by accident locking up the front brakes going down the road. Plus it has the nostalgic Mustang nitrous look. -Joe

I dont have IUP, but am thinking about getting the IUP switches just for addons...only thing is will need a latching circuit added...it just bugs me having the fake buttons there.

They make some cool label makers now that use clear tape with color lettering in different sizes and fonts. You can buy the label maker in most office supply stores and Wal Mart. They even have metalic lettering cartridges as well.

RE: Switches and where to put them?
What are these switches for? I ask because I have a strange suggestion that would work well, but not for something like nitrous or other "on demand" applications. Consider the window pillar? I know, I know, that's usually gauge country, but take a look at how flat and wide it is on our cars on the side facing the window. You could flush mount rocker style switches (in black I think would look best, but some chrome/alum. might do) that would look and activate like overhead cockpit switches. Folks could also see it from the outside and know this is no normal Mustang.
Of course, this would only work for auxiliary lights, electric fan, or some other sort of item that you just turn on/off and leave it alone...it would be pretty odd to reach up and try to activate your nitrous like that...but the nitrous master power, that would work.
Just a thought.
Best,

RE: Switches and where to put them?
great ideas guys keep them coming before i start drilling the one place i would love to mount them is up in the ceiling console by the map lights. it's just too hard to run all those wires under the headliner and down the a pillar under the dash.... the console by the3 shifter seems to be the best place so far. i like the cupholder ideas but i do like the cupholders and i would rather keep them. once the baby gets up i can go start making brackets and drilling. i post pics when i'm done. thanks!
