Default Stupid neubee question - 1st oil/filter change

OK, my recent vehicle experience has been with the dreaded family mini-van. Didn't think twice about taking that POS to the Jiffy Lube. When I came to my senses and bought an '06 GT I knew I'd want to do my own work and put in good synthetic oil. Well, I'm well stocked with the appropriate Amsoil and oil filter. Now the question is how? When replacing the oil filter does this need to be filled partially or completely with oil before putting it in? Is there anything else special I need to do with the new filter when putting it in. Sorry for the stupid ignorant question, but I'm a bit new with this one. Thanks for any help you can give.

I lubrucated the gasket and put it on empty and oil pressure came right up to normal. You have to let the car sit a long time for the dip stick to read full. I checked it after about 5 minutes and it was below the top mark. In the morning it was up there.

You really should fill it up though (the filter) , as with any car.

You do not need to prime the filter before putting it on.

It's always a good idea to prime the oil filter, otherwise the car runs dry for that extra amount of time. Besides it's the starting of the car that causes the most wear and tear on the engine since there is no oil circulating. Why add to that?

Doesn't the "dry filter vs. filled filter" debate answer depend on where the motor first sucks up oil from on start up?

Derf...please don't hump me this time. LOL!

as far as I know, newer cars suck through the filter only. It cuts down on any potential problems caused by crap in the pan. But I don't know for certain on the newer stangs.
