Has anyone else used a different brand rather than the Infinity's?

Pop the grills off from the top, the speakers are top mounted, be carefull of the heat element, best to losely tape cardboard on it so you don't accidently scratch it. You will need to use an angled torx bit. the screws are only held in by plastic nuts.
If you have fat hands, forget it.

I just ordered a pair of Infinity 6812cf's from etronics.com--$59.99/pr +9.02 shipping and no tax. Should be here the end of next week. If I like the sound, I'll order a second pair for the rear. Thanks again for the input.

Sweet!!
Thanks i was hoping for something that simple. I was looking at them and thinking O Crap the whoel back top piece needs to be removed and that requires removing lots of interior parts.

I am sure there must be a site somewhewre that allows you to load PDf and then you could simply have a link to it. If you go to this thread you will see that is what has been done.

Maybe email the thread starter and ask him how he did it.

d_man,
I have the shaker 1000 in my 06 GT and was not impressed with the sound either. I just replaced the rear deck speakers with Boston Acoustic S85 and the fronts with Infinity 6812cf's -- the sound is very impressive and I'm extremely pleased. the rear speakers are not fun to get out, but I found that the "torx" bolts were not very tight and I was able to remove them with just my fingers by twisting the "torx" bit. When I put in the BAs I used a 10mm allen head screw/bolt (I got at Lowe's) and lock washer -- worked like a champ. I think the Infinity's sound better than the BA's. If I had to do it again I would put Infintiy's in the front and the back. I can't imagine how good the stereo would sound with a better head (who said head?????? I'll take some of that!!!) unit, but I really like the look of the Shaker head unit -- no frills, but classy looking. Good luck.

I'm pretty unhappy with the sound of the Shaker 500 in my GT. There seems to be no low-midrange to the system. The subs are okay for real low freqs, but there's a big hole in the midrange. Has anyone replaced just the front and/or rear speakers and fixed this problem? If so, what speakers did you get and are you happy with them. How much did you pay, ease of installation, etc. would also be welcome. My concern is the crappy head unit and how the crossovers may be set up leading to new speakers that sound as bad as stock.

I'm on kind of a budget, so I'm looking for something I can replace now and flesh out later (head unit, sub, amps, whatever).

Thanks, everyone

I haven't replaced the speakers yet but i have replaced the head unit with my kenwood excelon deck. That alone makes a world of difference.
