I also have the Infinity 6812CF speakers in the front and back. They sound much better then the stock ones. I changed the deck to a Kenwood DDX-6019 DVD receiver with an iPod connector (30GB iPod) and two 10" subwoofers in the trunk connected by a JBL mono Amp. The sound is very nice.

All things being constant (amp, box design, location, etc.) the more efficient speaker will *ALWAYS* be louder, in general. The efficiency measurement takes into account the electrical properties of the sub, dimensions, and so forth.

Now then, it is common for the super-high wattage speakers to be less efficient than "smaller wattage" ones. This is often becasue the super-stiff suspensions required for high-wattage subs also require more power to move around. But this is not neccisarily true in all cases.

I will freely admit that OFTEN TIMES larger subs tend to have lower effeciencies, in which case you must have a larger amp, etc. However this is not a deterministic rule that is 100% true. It is a guideline that happens to be true a lot of the time, but that doesn't make it law.

Also, the measurement frequency matters greatly. A larger sub will generally have much flatter output (e.g. more efficiency at lower frequencies), but I am talking about volume in general, not exclusively sub-bass.

Guys,
I want to order the Infinity 6812 6x8s for both the front and the rear. The saleperson at Crutch field said that they would not fit in the front, because they stick out too far for the factory grill. Any truth to this? I'm trying to decide between the Infinitys and the Pioneer 6871s.......

That sounds really odd. I have heard of many people that have installed those Inifinitys with no problems. Have a look at some of the earlier posts here and people have said they fit A-OK.

I have two pairs sitting on my garage floor. They'll be going in this weekend. I'll report back with my results once they go in, but based on my visual inspection they would appear to fit fine.

Just about any 5x7 or 6x8 will fit the factory locations in the doors and rear deck. Some aftermarket 8" subs will fit in the doors with some slight to moderate modifications.

I have the basic stereo system, I just put in the infinty Kappas 6x8's and the fit fine. I had to bend 2 tabs out on the frame of the speaker to fit in the area, but other than that, they fit fine and the tweeter on the speaker doesn't come close to hitting the panel grill.

Hey,

I just wanted to thank all of you who provided input. I installed my Infinity 6812cf's last night and they sound muuuch better. The highs are remarkably improved. I could go for a little more midrange, but I suspect the stock setup clips too much out to the subs. Fading from front to back I can really hear the difference. The stock rears have almost no highs and I had to turn down the trebel lest the fronts make my ears bleed. Now I have to replace the rears.

Thanks again
