Let me tell ya ppl, get used to these "scratch'd" experiences......cuz they're gonna be quite frequent on these new mustangs (those with the factory paint job that is). I was washing my GT today and saw my first sizable chip in the front fender. What really surprised me about it was that the chip went straight down to the metal........and I can tell ya, there wasn't much paint between that metal and the air. I have since investigated a few of my "straight-to-the-metal" chips on the hood of my 98 mustang, and there is a hell of alot more coats of paint/clear on that car than on my 05. I honestly think Ford cheaped out on the paint work of these new mustangs big time, and we are all gonna be paying for it in the shortrun as well as the longrun.
My next mod was gonna be suspension or maybe an aluminum driveshaft. After today, I've decided my next investment will be in a full car aftermarket clearcoat job.

Two days!! 2 freakin days! I picked up my 2006 GT Redfire Metallic convertible with 18" polished wheels on 4/28/2006. 4/30/06 and 600 miles later. Cruising on a 2 lane road next to a local park with the top down and my 9 year old son in the back. All of a sudden, I hear a clunk, and I'm thinking, I couldn't have kicked up a rock. I slowed down, looked in my rear view mirror, saw nothing and pulled in to the closest place I could, the local VFW. I got out of the car, walked around the back of the car first, then I get to the left front fender. My stomach almost dropped out of my A$$!! At ~11:00 to the GT emblem, there is a 1/2" ding down to the metal and the GT emblem is gouged. I jumped in the car and went back the way I came. About 100yds down the road, I see 6 kids in this drainage ditch. Their age range was ~6-12. I didn't see a rock thrown, but I instictively knew. My heart is pounding and my blood is boiling, but I calmly asked, "Who through the rock?" Silence. I ask, "Where are your parents?". Silence. I got out of the car and I start walking towards the group. (I'm a former body builder with a few extra pounds now). Now I yell, "Who through the rock?" Five fingers point to one kid. He was about 8 or 9. He started crying. There was a soccer game going on so I knew his parents were probably close by. I told him to take me to his parents. He said, "No, I'll get in trouble". I said, "Yes, you will". And he started crying harder. So, I then walked along the sidelines and one of his little rat friends pointed his parents out to me. I told them what happened and they were steamed...

I knew the ding needed to be poppped out and entire fender needed to be repainted for proper blending. Although, when I got the estimate, I kept asking, "Are you sure the whole fender needs to be repainted?" I was sick. Had it done through a Dupont/I-Car Gold class certified body shop where I had work done on other cars. The day I picked it up, It was sunny and I spent ~20 minutes inspecting it from every conceivable angle. Looks like how it rolled off the production line. The parent's homeowners insurance paid for the repair and rental.

I showed great restraint that day...

My first three scratches all came from the Morons at the Dealership. Two in the dash. Then when they fixed those and replaced my Smart Box they scratched the door jamb. All with only a mere 200 miles on the car. Needless to say I am not letting them repair the last scratch they installed.

I got my first scratch backing out of the driveway it was trash day so the can was on the corner of the driveway, i backed out and cut my wheels right into it. It happened to be filled with busted up sheet rock so it didnt budge just dug a nice one right into the front right fender. Its like i dont feel the same about the car its like it has lost its "newness" but i am getting it fixed and i will try to forget about it.

I try to park in a corner at work and use three magnetic door and guards and cover my car to protect the exposed side. I am a supervisor at work and have one of my designers park next to my car to protect it. Does anyone know where I can buy a full size rubber blow up car when he goes to lunch ?

First scratches on mine came from my wife's mountain bike dropping on the spoiler/trunk lid. She tried to take it down from the hangers in the ceiling and dropped it on the car! No more hanging anything above the car......

0 for me.......Everyone says I'm ridiculous, walking around the car after you come out of the store in a busy parking lot doesn't seem normal to them, but than again I could just be Obssesive Compulsive...
