Default Tire | Rim Combo.

I went to 2 of the local tire/rim shops in town here for suggestions. I've been through several catalogs and think i finally have chosen my set. Was wandering if A.) anyone has either or maybe even the same set, and 2.) What people may think of the set.

I am considering the following, and please note i'm not going for the "excessive" look, just a clean one:

Nitto 555 265/35/20 x 4 (http://www.nittotire.com/tires_555.asp)
Helo Tease 20" (8.5) x 4 (rim pic: http://www.thewheelconnection.com/ph...&brandsearch=1)
Lowest quote was $1900.00 installed out the door.

Does anyone think this combo would be to much? I was leaning more towards the 18's, but the last guy kinda talked me into the 20's, said they looked better than the 18's and 22's were to much on the mustang. Anyone have 20's, comments? I have a 2006 black vert with red interior, and was thinking of doing black rims with polished lip, or chrome inserts. This will be my first rim set, and so i don't have much experience in the market. Any help would be apprciated.

Thanks!

They look nice. Chrome but not too extravagant. Nitto's are really good too, kinda wierd that you picked a rim that looks almost like the ones on the Nittos lol. Im not too sure about 20's though.. I think youre going to regret it after you have to replace tires every 10-12,000 miles. 18's are expensive enough but 20's are outrageous.

lol at the nitto tire picture, i didn't even notice had to go back and look. They are very close. I called the shop guy, and he said the life quote on those tires (look above) are 35,000 - 40,000 miles. Granted i'm sure they inflated, but still guessing 20 - 25k. Where did you get the 10-12k numbers? This is a good point, and not something i had thought of. I orginally wanted to do the staggered tire size, bigger in rwd, but after being told i couldn't rotate the tires much, due to different sizes, i'm going to go with all 4 being the same size.

The 10-12 was an exageration but if you drive a Mustang like it should be driven then youre probably only going to 2/3 of the life out of the tires. My mom owns a Firestone and she sees people come in every day with $350+ tires that have been worn down and they have less than half the miles the tires were rated for. Now granted this has alot to do with your driving, if you drive like a granny your tires will probably last pretty close to what they said. If they quoted 35-40, Im estimating youll get about... 28 MAYBE 30k out of them if you drive decent and dont burn out. However... if you wanted to drive like that you wouldnt have a Mustang.. so I would plan on replacing them about every 18-22k. And get a size that you can afford to replace, because even at 18" youll be shelling out quite a bit. You dont want tires so big and low profile that it will cost you more than a couple pay checks to replace them.

Yeah I like the staggered look. My friend has a 95 Firebird and it looks awesome on his car.

Soc06,
These are NT555's....275/35ZR20 Rear, 255/35ZR20 Front. They currently have about 9,000 miles on em, and are not showing signs of early wear. Obviously they cannot be rotated.....

Mlcrycc,

Thanks for the pictures, that's a great looking car. Would you go with 18's if u could do it again? Or even 4 tires of the same specs? I really do like the staggered tire sizes! Are your tires visually apparent on the tire size difference ? The first shop i went to in town said they have done 5 '05, '06 stangs with 315's in the rear. I can't image that. 275 was the size i was going to shoot for, but the guy said 265/35/20 in the rear, 255/35/20 in the front would be good staggered match. Like i said i'm new to the market, and think that the 10 difference wouldn't warrent much of a difference, and isn't worth not being able to rotate them. Any opinons on the staggered look Mlcrycc?

Bl1nkage,

I'm going to check into the tire prices, i'd be glad if i got 28-30k per tire life, but will check into tire prices anyway. I have careful days, and crazy days when driving, as i'm sure most do. I don't expect to the full tire life, but am hoping for around 23-26k miles.

Thanks guys, opinons are much appricated.

Soc06,
Thanks for the kudos. Yes, to me anyway, the tire size is apparent when you look at it. I believe it's about a 2 inch width difference or so....These were on when I bought the car off the lot. If I had it to do from scratch, well,......the main reason I would look at 18's opposed to 20's would be the ride. The 20's have a tendicy to ride a bit rough, depending upon road condition. They are very unforgiving on uneven railroad tracks, etc. Gotta watch those potholes as well. As far as going the same size around, I am reserving that thought until I see what kind of mileage I get with unrotated tires.....I am usually a fanatic about rotating tires regularly....There are some other owners here with 315's on, and they look good to me. No rubbing, from what they have said. Just do a forum search.

Most of the folks on here like to lower theirs to eliminate the wheel well gap. And while I love the look of most I have seen lowered, part of the "throwback" of this model, for me anyway, is the ***-end jacked up like my old 1969 was. Back then, as long as you had a set of Hi-Jackers on, with about 150 lbs of air in em, then you were set

Best of luck in you quest, let us know what you decide upon.
