Default Moth Ball Aroma

Hey Guys:

Just purchased a 06 GT and noticed that after the car is shut off, after a short time running, I smell what reminds me of moth ***** outside the car. Anyone have any clue on this?

Thanks

New vehicles tend to smell funny the first few weeks because of oils and protective coatings on many of the drive train parts. Even when you purchase new exhaust systems they smell funny and sometimes horrible because of all the protective coatings they have on them so they don’t corrode in storage. It could also be your cat’s burning in, which is normal.

I would say if the smell don’t go away within a week or two of daily driving have your dealer look at it.

Newer and bad cat converters tend to smell like rotten eggs?? but I imagine you can tell the difference between the 2. Also make sure your AC is set to at least vent. Leaving the vents off can cause a musty smell.

I will tell you one thing about weird mustang smells. The clutch in these things has a unique smell. I made a slight mistake one day and got it a bit warm. Nothing major, but the smell was totally different than any other burning clutch I have smelled. Very nasty. Thank god it was only there for a second and then dissipated.
