MM&FF GT500 test.
I was going to buy one for a $10k over MSRP, but was losing sleep at the $55k that it would be (with TTL, gas guzzler tax), so I got my deposit back and bought my 2005 car. In two month I have over $38k into this thing and it is pretty nice...but nowhere near the total package (with factory warranty) that the GT-500 has. Every time I gun my car, the joy is clouded by my listening for a rod to pop out the side of my block! I like the body mods of my car as much as the Shelby, but I think the engine is key.
As for a fat pig, have you ever picked up one of those superchargers/manifolds compared to that plastic thing that is on the 4.6? My KB ain't no feather...

I agree that anything more than about 5k over MSRP is way out of line. I mean we can be realistic and say that for a high demand car, it's likely that you'll pay a few bucks more IF you want that car.
Is it heavy? Yeah, but it's got a bigger motor with a cast iron block. I mean as Bigdave points out, it's likely a whole lot more bulletproof than our motors and that'll add some weight.
I am having a difficult time thinking of another 500HP car that runs low 12's off the showroom floor for 40K US.
Just a quick google brought up this link here. Fastest cars Can't vouch for it's accuracy but a lot of the numbers look right. I can't see too many vehicles on there that (today) are priced at 40k or so. I think the real issue that people keep bringing up is that with the dealer gouging the car is now being hoisted into Corvette price category and I don't think that's fair to say that Ford's screwed up. It's the dealers going for the cash and the people lined up to buy them are continuing the problem by actually being willing to pay for it.
And I think all this comparing to the Corvette is a bit wack, I mean they are two completely different cars intended for 2 completely different things.
I'll likely never own one (maybe if they do make it for 5 years and I suddenly decide I need one) but I certainly will admire them and anyone that owns one. I'm sure they'll have a great time in theirs.
