So whats the story on throttle body spacers?

Throttle body spacers add no performance difference what so ever, Right? Is it just a gimmick?

From what I have read from people that have them, some see a little gain in HP and some turn around a sell them. Spend your money on something that will give you a better gain in HP. I thought about getting a TB space, but I won't waste my time with it now.
