RE: Performance Chip
Here is the manufacturer's website. http://www.jetchip.com
I thought about this before I got my SCT Tuner. My thought was, if I want to return to stock, then this would be even easier than a flash and it was cheaper. I didn't buy one, though.
Pro for chip:
- Less Expensive.
- Return to stock in about 5 seconds.
Pros for handheld tuner:
- Return to stock in about 30 seconds.
- Tuner is only $150 more.
- A tuner is more capable.
- Although you can only tune one vehicle at a time, many tuners allow you to tune multiple models and years. If you want to see how well your friend's 2003 Mustang works with a 93 octane tune, then it's easy to try it out.
- It's a tool. It can read and clear computer codes.
- A tuner will let you install a cold air intake (CAI). It takes about 30 minutes, sounds wonderful and will give 15 - 20 hp in our cars. It seems that all the CAI's worth buying require a tune. I have an SCT Strategy Flash with canned tunes, I can select multiple CAI's and octanes. Custom tunes have even higher gains.
- Tuner manufacturers release new software upgrades regularly and really support their products.
I'm all for saving money, but in this case, the tuner is just a really good value, even if you go with canned tunes from the manufacturer like my SCT Strategy Flash. I just installed a Steeda CAI this week and I'm very happy with the results. If you can turn a screw driver, you can install a CAI, the ability to tune for one of these down the road makes the tuner a much better option. A wonderful product.
