RUSTY BRAKES!
Good luck having the dealer change that for ya... I already went through that with my dumb Mazda3, they said NO!! because it was "natural causes" and they said "go away" basically... there are cars that the entire hub of the rotor is completely rusted.. and they will do nothing to change it... I hate dealerships, bastards...
OK my car was just in to have this brake rust looked at and wouldnt you know IT LOOKS WORSE NOW!!! they supposidly 'cleaned' all four rotars. They now tell me there is nothing they can do. How can they not figure out how to make a brake rotar not rust!!! Do you guys think there is ANYTHING I can do to persue this? I dont know why it bothers me so much, but it sucks to spend 24k on a car to have it looks like crap when its only a month old

Once clean, mask off rotor surface and spray with VHT dark grey hi-temp. Two good coats. Short of that they need to be professionally painted but you shouldn't have to do more than the VHT manifold paint I mentioned here. That's what I have on my rotors in this thread. If it's a daily driver these rotors will need to be swaped out in a few years (Wagner makes great ones and although I haven't seen them rust, I guess I'd spray them before putting them on out of the box, if they're going on the stang)
After several attempts calling Ford "customer service" to get a resolution to the issue, and a failed trip to the local dealer, I have called the dealer where I actually bought the car. I sent them a picture and they agreed that they should be replaced. Last night the dealer where I brought it in for service (not the purchasing dealer) called me and asked me if "I was completely satisfied" How the hell could I be satisfied if they only made my brakes look worse!! The nerve. Anyways the purchasing dealer is going to replace all four rotors.
I have an 06 GT and mine is not doing this. It looks like it has a different alloy inside the contact area that only rusts lightly on the surface. I think they may have fixed this mid year. They don't salt the roads here in Houston........could that be it?
This is so easy to do I would suggest this when you get your new rotors. Simply remove the wheel, spray area to be painted with brake cleaner and wipe clean; mask off the contact surface of the rotor and simply spray paint the area with VHT hi temp (silver, grey, dark cast, whatever shade of grey/silver you want) (You'll have to rotate wheel some to get the full circumference. Maybe this isn't necessary but there is no maintenance to this approach later, no problem cleaning, etc. and you have pretty much guaranteed that you'll never see rust on that part of the rotor again. I'll be doing mine soon as a "precautionary measure". Just do not sand the area to be painted; one can of VHT hi-temp will do all 4 easily with plenty to spare. The thing is if you don't do this, and you eventually get a little rust it's just going to get worse and since rotors are a disposeable component, it's hardly worth pulling them, sand blasting and painting them professsionally. A little prevention goes a long way. I used the dark grey cast color on my calipers and also on the back of the mufflers to make them obscure. Congrats on finally getting the service you deserve!!
I have a pair of slotted/drilled rotors and the rust as well fills these areas in which the pads don't hit. Anyone tried getting there rotors zinc or cad platted? What was the cost? Or should I go with another brand?
If you get rust in the slotted/holed areas that's pretty annoying. Do you really need slotted rotors? If not get a set of Wagners (US made); ConsumerAutoParts and others have them. They last a long time w/o warping and are reasonably priced.
