Default Tranny whine?

Does anyone else with a manual tranny hear a lot of noise?, mine sound like an old m22 rockcrusher. Not that I dont like it but is that normal? I noticed there was an ad on the forum for Cobrabob's shifter gasket's. Am I the only one who has this or is this a know thing.

-Regards

The service guys at Ford said that the have more straight cut gears that previous models. My 2001 is the same 3650 trans, but does not make hardly any whine at all.

It was the first thing I noticed when downshifting. Sounds like a police siren. I don't really here it anymore since putting the FRPP axle backs on.

I love the new tranny real slick, nice short throw's shorter than any previous manual I have owned, even a porsche was not nearly as slick.

I dont have a manual so obviously mine doesnt do that [8D] but my friend has an 03 and I noticed it does it alot, especially when downshifting... it almost sounds like the cars in the fast and furious movies, I always thought it had to do with the clutch but Im not an expert on manuals so I have no idea... it didnt really sound like grinding but more of a turbine slowing down kind of sound... is this what you guys are talking about?

actually the automatics do it aswell...if you put it in 1 and drive all the way to 3, and then while slowing down you downshift to 2 and then 1, you can hear the tranny whine. i dont know much about cars but this is probably not good for the tranny so i suggest not to do it. i found it out the hard way while i was slowing down because of traffic lights and my girlfriend was trying to sit in a very akward position so she bumped the lever to 2 and then 1 and i heard this whine and i was like WTF!!!!! i have always said to her to sit down properly because in case of an accident she will get all messed up.

Shifting the auto manually.. is perfectly fine.. I wondered about this also because my parents always told me it was only for going up hills when you needed a lower gear etc, but many many people on here as well as a few shops I have talked to said its ok to do it, and thats one of the main reasons that they dont make the lever lock into the gear (so its easier to shift it up and down). (Or so I was told)

BTW... you shouldnt try to shift manually during road head... [8D] Tell your gf to wait awhile or.. better idea... just pop it into drive
